Anonymity and your personal information
You are encouraged to remain mindful that Capacitype has been developed to help people find and access care and support services within their communities. Any information submitted for publication on Capacitype is subject to search engine (e.g. Google) queries. Protocols have been put in place to encourage site indexing on a daily basis to reflect any information which may be updated.
Information we collect
In certain areas of the website, such as those in which you complete a profile, submit forum comments, submit data for publication or create a new account, we may request that you provide us with your personal information, such as your e-mail address, name, zip code, profession, or work experience. Whether or not to provide such personal information is completely your own choice. If you choose not to provide such information, however, it may impact our ability to provide you with certain services or assistance.
Please note that we cannot control the acts of users of Capacitype. You should be aware that, when you disclose your personal information in a profile or other medium on this site, that information may be visible to others. If you believe that any Capacitype user is improperly collecting or using information about you or other users, please contact email@example.com.
When visitors use Capacitype, we collect and aggregate information indicating, among other things, which pages were visited, the order in which they were visited, and which links were "clicked." Collecting such information involves the collection and logging of IP addresses, operating system, and browser software used by each user of the website. Although such information is not always considered personal information, we can determine from the IP address a visitor's Internet Service Provider and the geographic location of his or her point of connectivity.
We collect non-personal information in part through the use of "cookies"—that is, small text files placed on your computer's hard drive—that help us determine the type of content and pages to which you link, the length of time you spend at any particular area of the website, and the features you choose to use. This helps us identify the most popular areas of our website and determine the effectiveness of our features. A "session cookie" expires immediately when you end your session (i.e., close your browser). A "persistent cookie" stores information on the hard drive so that when you end your session and return to the same web site at a later date, the cookie information is still available.
Cookies allow us to serve you better and more efficiently, and to personalize your experience with Capacitype. Most web browsers are initially set to accept cookies. However, you have the ability to disable cookies if you wish, generally through changing your internet software browsing settings. It may also be possible to configure your browser settings to enable acceptance of specific cookies or to notify you each time a new cookie is about to be stored on your computer, enabling you to decide whether to accept or reject the cookie. You can also disable or delete the stored data used by technology similar to cookies, by managing your browser’s “add-on settings.” As our cookies allow you to access some of this site’s features, we recommend that you leave cookies enabled. Otherwise, if cookies are disabled, it may mean that you experience reduced functionality or will be prevented from using this site altogether.
Please be aware that if you do not configure your browser, or actively opt out, you will accept cookies provided by this website. For more information on how to configure your browser, please refer to the documentation accompanying your browser.
Third party Websites
How we use information we collect
Capacitype may use your personal information to improve the site and customize your experience. For example, we may use your personal information to determine which notifications or messages will appear on your screen or in your account profile; to send you service announcements, administrative messages, and other information; to send you national advocacy announcements or other items that we believe may be of interest to you; to send you certain e-mail messages that are critical to your use of Capacitype, such as system status updates; to "pre-populate" forms that are displayed for the purpose of searching for and finding data submitted for publication; to provide identifying profile information permitted by you to accompany forum comments; and to support the operation of Capacitype, such as account maintenance.
Capacitype may require its third party service providers to adhere to applicable laws, policies, and regulations policies regarding the privacy of our users and to otherwise handle personal information in a responsible manner. Capacitype does not, however, assume any responsibility for any acts or omissions of third parties, including the manner in which they use information received either from Capacitype or independently. If you believe a third party associated with, or who claims association with Capacitype, may be improperly collecting or using information about you obtained through or in relation to this site, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org and we will forward your message to the third party.
We may use non-personal information in aggregate form to build a more useful website. We may perform statistical analyses of the collective characteristics and behavior of our users, and measure demographics and interests regarding specific areas of Capacitype. We may provide statistical information based on this data to our third party partners. We may also use the aggregate data to inform these third parties as to the number of people who have seen and clicked through links to their resources or services.
We do not sell, re-sell or distribute for resale your personal information. Periodically, you may receive email invitations to participate in fundraising activities or calls to action for a national or local advocacy effort aimed at addressing the public health crisis of addiction in the U.S. You may choose to unsubscribe from any email invitation or mailing list received through or maintained by Capacitype by following the instructions included in the email.
If Capacitype is involved in an acquisition or sale of all or a portion of its assets, your personal information may be disclosed, transferred, or otherwise involved in such transaction. In such circumstances, you will be notified via a prominent notice on our website of any change in ownership or uses of your personal information, as well as any choices you may have regarding your personal information.
Our site provides you the opportunity to opt out of receiving communications from us at any point where we request that you provide us with your personal information. Where indicated just select the appropriate option. For example, you may “opt out” of receiving email invitations to participate in fundraising activities or calls to action for a national or local advocacy effort at any time in a variety of ways:
- by using the "opt-out" or unsubscribe link included in each email;
- by changing your preferences on the “settings" page in your Capacitype account (if available); or
- by contacting us at email@example.com.
If you have created more than one account and provided more than one email address to Capacitype, you may continue to be contacted unless you request to unsubscribe each email address you have provided.
Sharing data or sending email from Capacitype
If you choose to “share” Capacitype data, as permitted, to tell another person about a resource or a service, we may ask you for that person's email address. You should only share an email address if you have the appropriate permission and consent to do so from the individual associated with that email address. We will automatically send that person a one-time email inviting him or her to visit Capacitype. We use this information for the sole purpose of sending this one-time email, and do not store these email addresses unless otherwise authorized.
The security of your personal information is important to us. We use reasonable technical, physical, and organizational security measures to protect your personal information, both during transmission and once we receive it, but we cannot guarantee its absolute security. We review and update our security practices periodically and as required by applicable laws or regulations.
If you have any questions about security on our site, you can contact us at
Occasionally, Capacitype may conduct surveys in order to better understand your needs relating to resources and services, or to better understand the nature of certain resources and services. As a national database of prevention, treatment, and recovery support services, Capacitype services include periodic research activities, which may include the use of surveys, to best describe the landscape of resources and services both nationally and in local geographies. Participation in any presented survey is completely voluntary. We will not share your survey information or responses with any third party, except in aggregate form.

Correcting personal information
If you would like to have your personal profile information removed from Capacitype’s database, or would like to correct, update, amend, or deactivate such information, you can use account setting editing tools or cancel your account at any time. You may also contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will use reasonable efforts to comply with your request. Keep in mind, however, that residual information will remain within Capacitype databases, access logs, and other records, which may or may not contain such personal information.
Access and data retention
We will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. We may also retain resources created on this site, such as map assets and forum content and comments, even after your personal account information is deleted from the site.
